WASHINGTON, D.C —Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.) made the following statement after joining House Committee Chairs for a meeting with President Biden to discuss the Build Back Better agenda.

“Today’s meeting made it clear that we are on track to enact once-in-a-generation legislation that will better the lives of our nation’s veterans and all Americans. Most VA hospitals are over 50 years old, and it is clear there are places where the infrastructure of these buildings are failing our veterans. If we’re going to build back veterans’ trust in VA, we have to start making serious investments in the outdated infrastructure meant to serve them—and nearly three quarters of Americans support these efforts. The reconciliation process, in tandem with the bipartisan infrastructure package, is the surest and fastest way to provide this much needed funding and ensure VA has the resources to care for all who’ve borne the battle-- including additional funds to support caregivers, veteran small businesses, internet connectivity and accessibility, and affordable housing projects. Under President Biden’s leadership, I am confident that we can get this done.”
